    2008/2009 Champions

Cooksville Phantoms Minor Midget Red Hockey Team Ends a Very Successful 2008/2009 Season

The Minor Midget Red team ended the 2008/2009 by winning the West Mall Lightning Select Easter tournament in dramatic fashion. It was a most exciting game, the arena was packed, everyone was excited with horns, drums, whistles and more. The score was 3-3 going into the final seconds of play in the third period when Dean Trinetti rifled a shot from the slot to the top corner of the net with 0.3 seconds left on the clock to win the championship 4-3. This tournament was a hitting tournament with Tier1 teams in it and Cooksville ended the tournament 5 and 0. We had people asking where Cooksville was from and commenting on what a great team they are, even the officials mentioned it on a number of occasions.

This team was also the MHL Cup winners in the Minor Midget Red division ending the season with an impressive  record of 15W, 3L, 3T (80 GF, 33 GA) and the 2nd lowest penalty minutes.

    Other tournament results:
    • Silver - The Faustina Xmas tournament (bodychecking)
    • Gold  - The Agincourt Canadiens Select tournament
    • A very succesful exhibition game against the NES IK Minor Midget Select 1993 Norwegian  Team

All in all another very successful season for Dan and his coaching staff.

Phantoms are too real for their opponents

October 29, 2008 05:41 PM - Their opponents only wish that the Cooksville Phantoms would go away.

But unfortunately for their peers, the Atom A team has been quite a presence on the tournament circuit early this season.

The Mississauga Hockey League representatives won their second tournament of the campaign on the Oct. 18-19 weekend in Bracebridge.

After placing second in the preliminary round, the Phantoms captured the
Don Bell Memorial Hockey Tournament with a 4-0 win over the Bracebridge Bears.
The Phantoms had lost to the Bears 1-0 in the preliminary round, but rebounded to defeat Kincardine 6-0 in the semi-finals.

“The boys played exceptional hockey and really worked hard,” said Phantoms head coach Doug Mackenzie. “They never gave up and in the end, they were rewarded for their work.”

Members of the championship team include goalie Jack LaFontaine, Adam Wickham, Matthew Porter, Peter Mackenzie, Jake, Orvis and Ethan MacDonald, Jordan Hum, Matthew Pamenter, Steven Guest, Cory Kuhar, Joey Marino, Joseph Borg, Ryan Dauncey, Quinn Finch and Devon Klingenberg.

    Cooksville  vs.  Norway

Congratulations to the Cooksville Minor Midget Red (CO101) team that completed it's game Friday January 2nd, 2009 against the NES IK Minor Midget Select 1993 Norwegian Team. It was a great game to watch with play going back and forth in a very entertaining game. Although the game ended in a 2-2 tie, the Cooksville team outplayed their Norweigan opponents and could have had 2-3 more goals in a second period that saw Cooksville only allow a couple of shots on our goal. Certainly the contact game did not intimidate our guys, and this was a very cleanly played game that saw no penalties.

The game ended in 2-2 and since time was still available, a decision was made to have a 'shootout' with 5 players from each side participating. Unfortuantely, the Norwegian's won the shootout 2-1.

Congratulations to Dan Trinetti, his coaching staff and the players from the Minor Midget Red team that conducted themselves with a whole lot of class and played an outstanding game.
